As the East Boston Foundation enters its tenth (10th) year of operation, there have been some changes to the faces at the Board of Trustees’ quarterly meetings. Over the past year, the Board lost its founding Chairwoman, Elvira “Pixie” Palladino, who graciously served as a Trustee from the Foundation’s inception. Pixie was instrumental not only in the fight to help establish the Foundation and the Community Agreement which has ensured its continuance, but helped guide the Board through its early days. Because Pixie was so dedicated to many of the causes that were important to the community of East Boston, it will be hard to imagine if we will ever see someone like her again. The Board also bids farewell to another of its founding members and Secretary, Leslie Kirwan. Leslie was recently selected by Governor Deval Patrick to serve as the Commonwealth’s Secretary of Administration and Finance. As the Massport designee on the Board, Leslie brought valuable insight and professionalism to the Board and helped guide the process on important issues such as the Board’s selection of investment counsel. Her skills and talents were no secret to those in state government and elsewhere. We wish Leslie and her family the best in her new endeavor and know she will be a great asset to this state’s economic future. We also say goodbye to Joseph E. Steffano, the Board’s past Chairman. Joe brought a fresh perspective to the role of Chairman and ensured an orderly, efficient and objective meeting process during his tenure. Joe will be replaced by Robert Anthony, an East Boston native and Boston Police Officer as the District One Councilor’s designee. We appreciate his and all past Trustees commitment to the community of East Boston and can not thank them enough for their time, effort, and dedication. Lastly, we wish to express our sincerest condolences to Board of Trustee Member and friend, Mary Catino, who recently lost both her husband and a son in law. |
